Group photo at a Pride parade, standing in a downtown parking lot. There are 17 diverse people sitting or standing around two who hold a large "Society of Alberta Asexuals and Aromantics" banner. Several of the people carry asexual, aromantic, or other pride flags.

Asexuals & aromantics are underrepresented both in popular media and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Words like “gay” or “bi” are familiar to most people, but when it comes to the “A” spectrum of identities, many do not recognize that these even exist. Few people have a basic understanding of what it really means to be asexual or aromantic, or that they are valid orientations which are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and face societal discrimination. Thus, outreach and education are important to those who fall within the asexual and aromantic spectrums.

The Society of Asexuals and Aromantics of Alberta (SAAA) was founded to allow us to be visible, to represent who we are, and to spread awareness. We provide a valuable safe space for a-specs to form community in Alberta, and pursue opportunities for education, advocacy, and public outreach.

We affirm that:

  • we exist

  • we are not broken

  • we are proud of who we are

  • our experiences matter

  • we are not alone

  • we are relevant

  • we are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community

Whether you identify on the asexual or aromantic spectrums, are questioning/unlabelled, or are an ally seeking to learn, we welcome you!

Every month, we host a range of events both online and in person across Alberta, many of which are open to the public. We provide online & print educational resources, and have speakers who would be happy to give a talk or workshop for your own organization. Take a look around our website and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions.
